All bare metal is etched
primed. This paint chemically reacts
with the metal and eats in slightly so ensuring good contact.

The paint is layed on.
Etch, primer, flat, primer,flat, base, flat,
and top colour. Some of the coats may be repeated so
eventually a good finish results. Paint is cellulose and the final
finish requires a T cut and wax.

Underneath the vehicle
all the original treatment was removed
and it was retreated with black waxoyl.

In the boot 2 towers
were made for the large dampers and
the original petrol tank removed and the hole in the floor
plated. The petrol tank will be a Fiat unit sat upright between
the towers. The bulk head has also been plated.

This picture shows the
petrol tank in position. A transverse
exhaust silencer will be fitted under the boot floor.

The Toyota Celica axle
ready for fitting. All the original mounts are cut and ground off and new
leaf spring mounts welded on. The damper brackets can also be seen on top
of the axle tubes.

The front suspension
is uprated the normal way with
telescopic dampers and poly bushes in the eye bolt. The
brakes are Marina discs and calipers with Marina 575 van
hubs which have a 4.5" PCD stud spacing. This matchs the
Celica rear axle.

The Fiat gearbox has
a stick extension which moves the stick
further back and gives a shorter shift. This means moving the
handbrake back. The new gearbox cover is made from sheet
steel. Cardboard templates are made first to ensure a
accurate fit of the cover.
