The damage was extensive
but fortunately the coach company paid out with no argument. This meant he
had the money and the deadline of the Morris Minor national rally in 10 weeks. |
Instead of rebuilding
it the same Robin had plans to radically modify it along the lines of a mini
truck. A plasma cutter was hired to cut the roof off. |

A lift off roof was soon
made held on with pegs and over centre latches. Tony Amos is helping Robin. |
To get the proportions
correct with the roof off, the pickup back requires cutting down. The inside
is also panelled smooth. |

One inch box section
was used to make a rear rail on the body for the roof seal to sit on. |
Robin was helped throughout
the 10 week build by his friend from college Tony `the gopher' Amos. |

At 3am on the Friday
night before the National Minor rally we finished the pickup. It created an
immediate reaction when we arrived. The speakers worked and were load. |
Many people knew that
Robin was rebuilding his van but they did not know the details. They were
shocked when they saw the result. |

Crowds were around the
pickup all weekend and Robin won best Custom at the National Rally setting
new standards. In those days getting top custom was a big honour. |
The pickup was used a
lot for attending shows and rallies and having fun. |
