The advert for the car.
I purchased it for £450 and drove it as standard for
a while. It was great fun, nippy and very easy to hold in side ways slides.
The steering circle was very tight and the car was very easy to hand brake
turn. |
Stripping of the car
soon started. The engine and gearbox were sold for £20. Many
people thought I was crazy selling my twin cam Minor to buy an old Reliant,
then taking it apart. |

I was reading many magazines
at the time and this Camaro had the stance I was looking for and influenced
how my Kitten would look. |
I did a few sketch's of how the
rear end would look with the proposed big tyres. |

The front was soon cut
off, a difficult job with all the double skinning. |
The rear axle mounts
cut from 5mm plate with template. |

The Volvo axle before
narrowing with the mounts. A Volvo axle was chosen because of availability,
strength, ratios and ease of narrowing. |
The body was hung from
the roof at ride height and the rear wheels and tyres put into position. The
axle width is simply the distance between the wheels. |

Wheels are 10" x 15" and the tyres are N50 x 15 ( an American size
). |
